The film I Am Legend has been made on the basis of the story written in the year 1954, and is still considered to be one of the best horror novels ever written and published. How? The fiction has till now a good sales throughout the global spectrum and moreover has been acclaimed by eminent critics from time to time. Even the prominent horrormeister Stephen King has been quoted as saying it had a huge influence on his life. It was a decision from along ago, but in the recent times both the Warner Brothers and the internationally acclaimed actor Will Smith have a lot to live up to with the big screen version. To them, if there is anyone who can pull off in the real terms the part of a man searching for survivors of a plague while trying to keep ahead of vampires, it is Will Smith. The story after all raises finger to the human conscience and asks every person what would he or she do, if the very individual happens to be the last person on earth. Would he or she go crazy from loneliness? Or would just run naked through downtown in whichever direction it can be?
The story goes like this. Robert Neville, the key character of the movie played by Will Smith is a brilliant scientist, but nevertheless even he could not contain the terrible virus that was unstoppable, incurable and manmade. One way or another immune, Neville is now the last human survivor in what is left of New York City and maybe the world. But he is not alone. He is surrounded by the Infected's victims of the plague who have mutated into carnivorous beings who can only exist in the dark and who will devour or infect anyone or anything in their path. For three years, Neville has spent his days scavenging for food and supplies and faithfully sending out radio messages, desperate to find any other survivors who might be out there. All the while, the Infected lurk in the shadows, watching Neville's every move, waiting for him to make a fatal mistake. Perhaps mankind's last, best hope, Neville is driven by only one remaining mission: to find a way to reverse the effects of the virus using his own immune blood. But his blood is also what The Infected hunt, and Neville knows he is outnumbered and quickly running out of time.
