If Hollywood had been sizzling with the Oscars the Filmfare awards were sizzling the Bollywood industry. Everyone from the industry seemed to be there with the exception of the Bachans and Aamir Khan who does not attend or take awards at any film awards. The show was co hosted by many stars but stealing the show were the mean and crude Saif Ali Khan and Sharukh Khan who were not sparing anyone in the audience but were winning the smiles of the audiences. The glamorous ladies and the hunks of Bollywood could not help but get along with the jokes, which by the way were all true. They even had a mock 'na real award' for all the terrible movies and performances in the year 2008.
Getting on with the awards ceremony the Best Movie of the year went to 'Taare zameen Par'. The little actor Darsheel of the same fame also won the critiques award for Best Performance. The best Directors award also went to Aamir Khan for Taare zameen Par'.
The Best Actor Male went to Shah Rukh Khan for Chak De! India. The Best Actor Female went to Kareena Kapoor for Jab We Met. The Best Actor in a Supporting Role Male was won by Irrfan Khan for Life in a Metro, Best Actor in a Supporting Role Female Konkana Sen Sharma for Life in a Metro,
Best Music A. R. Rehman for Guru, the Best Lyricist Prasoon Joshi for 'Maa' from Taare Zameen Par, Best Playback Singer Male went to Shaan for 'Jabse Tere Naina' from Saawariya and the Best Playback Singer Female Shreya Ghoshal for 'Barso Re' from Guru.
The other awards included Best Dialogues Imitiaz Ali for Jab We Met, Best Screenplay Anurag Basu for Life in A Metro, Best Story Amol Gupte for Taare Zameen Par, Best Male Debutant Ranbir Kapoor for Saawariya, Best Female Debutant Deepika Padukone for Om Shanti Om, The Sony Face of the Year Award again went to Deepika Padukone. The R D Burman Music Award went to Monty Sharma for Saawariya. Best Costumes, Sujata Sharma for Gandhi My Father, Best Cinematography, Sudip Chatterjee for Chak De! India, the Power Award went to Yash Chopra and Aditya Chopra. The Life Time Achievement Award was given to Rishi Kapoor. The Critics' Award for Best Film was won by Chak De! India. The Critics' Award for Best Actress went to Tabu for Cheeni Kum.
