The Oscar winning actor, Anthony Minghella, died at the age of 54. The actor was best known for his performances in movies like The English Patient, The talented Mr. Ripley and Cold Mountain. The British actor died due to a brain hemorrhage in the morning hours on the 18th of March. He was admitted at the Charing Cross Hospital in London. The actor had been under treatment for a growth on his neck at the hospital. He had cancer growth on his tonsils. Many of his friends and colleagues came to pay tribute to the director including Ralph Fiennes Jude Law, Kevin Spacey and Gwyneth Paltrow. Among the other people who came to give him their tributes were the Prime Minister Gordon Brown, BBC creative director Alan Yentob, John Berry, producer Lord Puttnam and director Sydney Pollack who was also a partner in their production company Mirage Enterprises.
Minghella was married to the Carolyn Choa who is a Hong Kong-born choreographer. He has a son named Max who is an actor and a daughter named Hannah who was also working as the production assistant for The Talented Mr. Ripley. He also has a brother and sister who are also in the television and film industry.

His career as the director started with Beckett's Play and Happy Days. In the 1980’s he was also working on television as a runner of Magpie. He then moved to the script editing of the drama series for children called Grange Hill for the BBC. He also started writing The Storyteller series for Jim Henson.
He won the Academy Award in 1996 for Directing for The English Patient. He also got nominated for the Academy Award for Adapted Screenplay in 1999 for The Talented Mr. Ripley. Before his death he had completed the work on the adaptation of The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency. This would have Jill Scott as Precious Ramotswe. The last work of the actor was BBC/HBO production called the "No 1 Ladies Detective Agency". This was based on a novel by Alexander McCall Smith. This program will be shown on the BBC One soon. His last big movie release was with Jude Law in Breaking and entering.
